- Baseball requires quick movements and explosive sprints. Buying the right pair of cleats for your specific field surface will improve your performance and help protect your feet/ankles/knees from injury. (always check with your league to find out what type of cleats are acceptable).
- There are four types of cleats available:
- Molded: Work best on soft or muddy surfaces (and are a good choice for younger players). Molded cleats have spikes but they are made of rubber.
- Metal: Best for grass or hard surfaces. They dig into the ground below giving you good traction for lateral movement. Players from high school to the MLB prefer metal cleats.
- Interchangeable: The most flexible option, interchangeable cleats can be used on most playing surfaces. Swap out the spikes for length or from metal to rubber to suit your surface.
- Turf: Best on artificial turf fields, turf cleats give you traction on what could be a slippery surface. Turf cleats are also often used for workouts, training or batting practice. They’ve got a grooved rubber sole and small rubber mini-spikes for grip.
- The main things to look for in a baseball cleat are durability, cushion, support and flexibility. Hit all four and you’ve got a home run.
