- Tennis is a vigorous demanding sport that required a lot of quick explosive movements. Your shoes must be technically sound and proper fit is a must.
- Your shoe choice should be based on your foot type. Refer to our section on for more details. Generally speaking a high arch requires cushioned shoes, a low arch will require a motion control shoe and a neutral foot will need stability.
- Lateral support is critical to help prevent injury and increase your recovery and response time on the court. When trying on your shoes make sure and feel solid lateral support you as you move side to side.
- Lightweight shoes cannot be compromised. All major brands offer super lightweight shoes that help with court movement and long match fatigue. The half-second advantage could be what is the difference in breaking serve or being broken!
- The shoe outsole needs be extremely durable to withstand the pounding on a tennis court. The toe box area needs to be reinforced to handle the toe drag from servicing and sliding into shots.
- The most important part on choosing your shoe is comfort and stability. Do not purchase a tennis shoe unless you 100% confident that it is comfortable to last you through a killer third set tiebreaker.
