Morton’s Neuroma
• Mortons Neuroma (MN) is found between the toes of the foot, most commonly the third and fourth toes. It is an entrapped nerve that becomes inflamed from constant irritation from the surrounding bony structures.
• Symptons of MN include a dull burning sensation radiating towards the toes or a stinging sensation that feels like a shock. You may also feel a numbness in your toes or pain under the ball of your foot.
• Causes of MN are an overuse of the foot and toes from repetitive motion. It can also be caused by blunt trauma to the forefoot and nerve.
• Initial treatment includes eliminating tight-fitting footwear and adding custom orthotics. If these treatments don’t work, a doctor may prescribe a cortisone shot or surgery.
