Plantar Fasciitis
• The plantar fascia is the tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot from your heel to the toes. Plantar fasciitis is when this tissue is inflamed and irritated. If the condition continues it’s possible to develop a bone spur on the heel.
• Pain from plantar fasciitis occurs when walking, running or even standing. It also hurts when the sole of your foot is stretched- if you pull your foot and toes backwards towards you with your hands.
• Some causes include: sudden weight gain, poor shoe fit, overpronation, starting or increase in fitness activities and tight muscles.
• To treat plantar fasciitis use a combination of ice therapy, stretching exercises (especially in the morning when pain may be most intense), anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy.
• Most people also need custom orthotics to help control the motion in the foot and the arch to take the strain off the fascia.
• If pain continues, a doctor might recommend a cortisone injection.
