Biking

Find Biking Footwear Here:

  • While you can wear any shoe to ride a bike, a clipless pedal system and bike shoes are a step up and will help you ride more efficiently.
  • Compared to regular shoes, bike shoes have much stiffer soles and stiffer upper to help you transfer energy into your pedal stroke.
  • A good fit is always important. You should buy your shoes about a half-size smaller than your normal size to ensure a proper, snug fit. You might feel your heel slip a bit when you try on bike shoes. This is because the soles are so stiff to keep your foot in a stable position while pedaling.
  • As your feet start to heat up and sweat, you need a shoe made with a moisture-wicking material.
  • Velcro and hook and loop strap closures make it very fast and easy to adjust the tightness of a shoe and get it on and off.
  • There are two common cleat systems out there; make sure your pedal system and biking shoe are compatible. The 2-Hole System sports bike shoes with a small, recessed cleat. You can walk more normally off your bike wearing this type of shoe. The 3-Hole System’s cleats are larger and protrude out further from the shoe making it more difficult to walk off the bike.
