Shoe Fit Overview
• There are some simple, general guidelines for a good shoe fit. If you are buying shoes for a specific sport, be sure to research the fit and feel for those types of shoes.
• What Size?
Always measure your foot when you go to try on shoes; your foot size can change over time, so don’t assume the size you were is the size you are. Also, different brands have different sizing.
• When & How to Try On?
Try on shoes towards the end of the day or after a workout as feet tend to swell and become larger. Wear socks when trying on new shoes and always stand up and walk around the store. Try on both shoes!
• Toe Area
Allow a thumbnail length of space (.5”) between the top of longest toes (of your largest foot) and the end of the shoe. You should be able to wiggle your toes.
• Width
Your foot should fit comfortable without stretching the upper.
• Heel Area
Heel should move comfortably without slipping.
• Stuck Between Shoe Sizes
If you find yourself stuck between to shoe sizes for a comfortable fit, buy the bigger size and use insoles for a perfect fit. If possible try the shoes on at home with the insoles and walk around inside so you can still return the shoes if the shoe/insole combination isn’t working.
• No Pain, No Gain?
For the most part shoes cannot be stretched out or “broken in”. If the shoes feel tight or uncomfortable in the store, they will only feel worse once you buy and start wearing them.
