Wide / Oversized / Narrow
• Shoe widths are indicated by letters. Men’s are usually C, D and E. Women’s are usually AA and B.
• For those with a narrower than average foot, B is a narrow men’s shoe and AA is a narrow women’s shoe.
• Medium shoe widths are the most common are sized D for men’s and B for women’s.
• Wide widths are labeled EE for men’s and D for women’s.
• It can be difficult to find comfortable, attractive wide fitting footwear. As you are trying shoes on, try shoes from different brands as each are sized somewhat differently. A more medical brand tends to run wider than a fashion shoe brand.
• For those with narrower feet, an orthotic or store bought foot support can help.
• Wide, oversized or narrow shoes can be harder to find, but there ARE plenty of choices available. Look for shoe stores in person or online that cater to those with uncommonly sized feet. Seek out brands that make shoes for your size.
• Most people know that men’s numerical sizes are 2 sizes larger than women’s numerical sizes (a men’s 8 is a women’s 10). The width is also different. A regular women’s shoe has a width of B while a regular men’s shoe has a width of D.
• You’ll know a shoe is the right size and width because the edges and bottoms of your feet align perfectly with the footbed.
